John Peet has been Europe Editor at The Economist since September 2003, responsible for coverage of the European Union, Russia, Turkey, the Caucasus and the Balkans. Earlier positions included Brussels correspondent, Executive Editor and Washington correspondent. His special reports have included Spain, the European Union, European Monetary Union, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, the Future of Europe and Turkey. John will give his perspective on the wider European economic and political situation including the euro, fiscal tightness and growth prospects including a reflection on the situation in Russia and France where both will have had quite recent elections.
